Surrogates Questions
1. What are the advantages/disadvantages of a surrogate?
- Some advantages are that they are able to do things that humans cannot. They are more efficient and can perform tasks better. A human has more time for themselves. The disadvantages was as shown in the movie, you don't get to spend as much time with your spouse as you should. Everything is done by the robot leaving no "real" time with them.
2. Would you want to try a surrogate?
- I don't think I would want to try a surrogate. I think that we loose the true meaning of life. Everything would be so perfect in a world of surrogates and I think that in life we learn from our mistakes and we cherish memories making life interesting and with surrogates we would be limited to these things.
3. In the film, it says that 98 percent of the population uses surrogates. Why would society be so eager to be someone else--someone beautiful and perfect? What does this say about our society?
- I think that even today we strive to be perfect, because that what society defines as "pretty" so all of us people kind of have that mind-set to be perfect and fit in. It just goes to show how messed up society is.
4. In the film the company VSI's slogan is: Life...Only Better." If you experience something via surrogate--is it real? Is the experience better?
- I don't think that it is real because the surrogate is just a idea of something that you want to be. I don't think the experience is because it is just a model of what you want to be and your not really experiencing the real its just a virtual experience so you don't feel the same as if your were to experience for yourself as a human being.

The Loss of the Real
The article The Loss of the Real is mainly about how animations of things, take away from the real life characteristics and actions of things because animated characters are created to appeal to people. The article gives an example of the disney crocodile versus a real life crocodile. The disney crocodile has more dramatic features while real crocodiles don't really do half the things that are portrayed in the animation. One quote that I found interesting was one of Stephen L. Talbott's quotes, "years of exciting nature programming have comprised wildlife experience for children."(29) I really agree with this quote. I think that the animation of things really play games with your mind, and kids become disappointed to find out that the animation of things are not the same as the reality of things. I myself have been fooled by this. A lot of T.V shows portrayed high school as a horrible place where drama was endless and the jocks were the coolest. This scared me to death, and I did not want to go to high school, but come to find out high school was nothing like it is portrayed in television shows, which came as a relief. Another quote that I found significant is, "We build our ideas about what is real and what is natural with the cultural materials available."(28) I feel like nowadays people seem to feel uncomfortable talking on the web or though text message, no one likes to meet in person. The two questions that I have for the author is, Have you ever been fooled by the animation of something versus the reality? Are you more comfortable talking in person or over the web?

No I-Pod For 24hrs.
In my English Class this week my professor asked us to go 24 hours without some kind of technology or social network that we use everyday. I choose my iPod because honestly I thought that it would be the easiest and that I could manage...well boy was I wrong! It had to have been one of thee hardest things I have ever done! On my way to school in the morning, I usually listen to music, and that morning all I had was my thoughts and I. I felt so bare and out of place while walking to school while everyone else around me had their little white plugs in their ears. I was surprised at how quiet it was. Everyone was just in their own little world and all I heard was the morning chirps of the birds, sprinklers in the area. I guess it was pretty nice to take in the nice morning view and environment around me because usually I have my face buried in my iPod deciding on what song to play next. It also seemed like a longer walk to school! I was a little frustrated and I had such a strong urge to just take my earphones out and stick them in my ears. Overall, I don't think that I could go without my iPod again. It is just too boring of a walk to not to listen to music! I love it too much to give it up or even keep it at a minimum. I don't know what I would do without music! It plays such a big part in my life!

Article Response: Society Is Dead, We Have Retreated into the iWorld
The article Society Is Dead, We Have Retreated Into the iWorld by Andrew Sullivan talks about our society and how it is becoming dead. We are being taken over by the one and only iPod. It says that we people are now in our own world missing out on what the world and nature has to offer. This article was very interesting and put much into perspective for me. It is true how shone the world out, and we all are in our own little close-minded worlds. "Each was in his or her own musical world, walking to their soundtrack, stars in their own music vide, almost oblivious to the world around them."I found this quote very interesting, mainly because it is the bare truth! As I walk to class everyday to I see about 95% of people with their iPods tucked in their ears and that includes myself. I have seen people almost get ran over because they could not hear the sound of the approaching bike behind them. I also loved the ending sentence of the article, "Try it. There's a world out there. And it has a soundtrack all its own." I think that this quote summed up the whole article and was a great ending sentence, and is something that we should try doing more often. The two questions I would like to ask the author is, does he listen to his iPod less often now? and have you undated to the latest iPod out today do you feel like this is going to be a much worst problem in the future?
About Me
My name is Tatiana but most people call me Tati. I am a college freshman attending California State University Northridge. My current major is Marketing, I aspire to be a fashion merchandiser because I absolutely love the excitement and rush of the fashion industry. I also love make-up! My best friend seems to think I have an addiction (oh well!). I am originally from Los Angeles and I am Belizean. I love going back to visit because of the hot sunny weather, I am not big fan of gloomy rainy weather. I have only one younger brother, so I try my best to lead him by my actions. We fight all the time as any other siblings would, but we love each other. I also consider my best friend Lorena as one of my siblings, so I guess that makes two! lol I love food, and I am very open to trying new things. I am not a great cook, but I can make a fair amount of meals in the kitchen. Coming to college I have learned a lot about myself in this short period of time. I have also matured more, and have become more independent. This blog was made for my English Class this semester in which I will post my opinion and views on various types of reading...Well that's it for now enjoy!
